Mother to five children Gill Barton was a bingo caller for many years and the job suited her because she could work shifts and still see to her family when they needed her, but during her time in the UK bingo industry, she just so happened to be promoted and found herself working with the staff training side of the industry. She found that she loved this and after working in the bingo industry for twenty-four years and finding herself to be fifty years old she decided to take a gamble and start her own staff training company.
Her husband though that she was just going through a phase and would soon tire of it, but through her training and development in the bingo industry, she turned her company into a growing concern that now makes a turnover of ₤12m per year. Her company is called GB Training Consultancy where she employs more than sixty people permanently and places over 800 temporary staff members weekly, of course these are not all in the bingo industry, but it just makes you think, from a bingo caller to all of this, including a seven bedroomed mansion and a holiday home near the sea, not bad at all for someone who had their beginnings in bingo.
